Following bariatric surgery it’s important to choose snacks that are healthy so you do not slow your weight loss. It’s easy to be tempted by the “convenience snacks” that are packed full of empty calories without much nutritional value. However, there are other, healthier snack options you can make right at home. As always, consult with your doctor about your health needs.

Garlic Basil Parmesan Crisps

Satisfy your chip craving with the better-for-you, three ingredient alternative.

Ingredients

parmesan cheese shredded
garlic powder
basil finely chopped

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop 1Tbsp heaps of parmesan cheese onto the baking sheet. Spread the cheese out into a thin circle and add some garlic powder and basil. Put in the oven for 5 minutes or until the edges are golden.

Watermelon Feta Blackberry Skewers

A quick salty, sweet, and tasty snack that you can make ahead or make on the fly.

Ingredients

1 small seedless ripe watermelon, cut into 1″cubes
6 ounces of Feta cheese, cut into 1” cubes
Fresh Ripe Firm Blackberries
Small wooden skewers

Preparation

Cut up Feta cheese and watermelon. Then insert skewers into watermelon, berries, and cheese. Eat immediately or store in fridge until ready to serve.

Avocado Bacon Deviled Eggs

This twist on traditional deviled eggs is loaded with protein and makes for a great tasty treat.

Ingredients

6 large hard boiled eggs, peeled
1/4 cup olive oil mayonnaise
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp finely diced red onion
1 medium avocado, diced
4-5 slices center-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/4-1/2 tsp sea salt, as desired
Paprika
Italian-leaf parsley sprigs

Preparation

Slice eggs in half. Remove yolks and place in a bowl. Set aside the egg whites for later. Combine mayonnaise, mustard, avocado, bacon, and salt with the yolks and stir. Place a heaping tablespoon of the mixture into each egg white half. Finally, add a dash or paprika and a parsley sprig and serve or chill until ready to serve.
